THE SURF SCREEN

Prepare to hoot, gasp and holler because The Surf Screen, an amazing BIG screen surf movie experience, with very best of, independent, unique and classic surf movies is coming.

The Surf Screen provides an opportunity to engage with surf culture on a BIG scale, through live presentation of independent creative (film, art, photo, music) perspectives.

The Surf Screen program of events for 2009-2010 includes screenings across Cornish beaches throughout the summer and cinemas across Southern England during winter months. We will also be arranging suprise one off events in special locations, revealed to our community members as part of their enhanced participatory experience.

As well as the very best of surf movie content (short and feature), The Surf Screen events will be supported by an array of media including music, slide shows and art exhibits. This experience will be further enhanced through an exciting on-line presence, which will allow extensive interaction, providing opportunities to re-edit content, review movies, blog with film makers, organise further screenings, determine films to be screened and vote for awards to be presented at an annual awards ceremony.

A preliminary round of screenings (at which audience members will be offered free Surf Screen membership), begins February 11th at the Royal Cinema in St Ives and will be held at this venue regularly, every first Wednesday of each month, until 6th of May. In addition The Surf Screen will tour Thomas Campbell's new film 'The Present' across the UK from mid-April to mid May.

Weekly summer screenings will begin in June across the beaches of Cornwall and run through until the end of August when they will return to the Cinemas for monthly winter screenings across the country.
